Re: Is this the true state of play.

There is no initiative from the RPRA to even attempt a recruitment drive and there never has been. I have aslked this question before -What happened to the 'future of the sport' committee? What did it achieve, where are the results of the monies spent? It didn't and there aren't any - just another ...

Re: Life in St Arnaud

There are some people who are quite unhappy with me. Of course there are always people who are unhappy with me. :D  I've only got a small team of young birds, and after adding a few and taking out a few there are 10 good young birds in the 'Youngstars'. That's it. They go good, too. :...

Re: Life in St Arnaud

The first race for my club, the Bendigo Invitation Club is on Saturday from St Arnaud. It will be interesting. Obviously since the liberation at the racecourse is 3 miles away from me I shan't be in this week. I'm going to watch with interest. Bendigo is about 100 kilometres (62 miles) almost due e...

That was a bit disappointing, Trev, but I guess you have to let someone else have a turn. :D

Re: Bicc Pau

Disclaimer. The following is simply an opinion. ;) :D If the yearlings are so fit they are dangerous, as the old saying goes, I would send them. A fit yearling, with the right breeding, will fly 400 miles if it's any good, and it's only another 80 or so miles to Bordeaux. I do think a yearling in su...

Re: Bicc Pau

Just out of interest I checked the Early Results page for Agen. It appears that most pigeons are two year olds, a smaller number of three year olds and quite a few yearlings. I only counted 3 out of the first 55 that were older than three year olds. The sturdy old long distance pigeon seems to have ...

Re: Bicc Pau

I don't know that I totally agree with sending yearlings to very long races, but people do, and win with them. Back in NZ, years ago, I was at the marking for the Young Bird National one night. I said to an old bloke that I was not sure that sending young birds 300 miles was very fair. He said to me...

Re: Bicc Pau

I have to say that, in my opinion and from my experience, that you might well get yearlings from those kind of distances but they seldom, if ever do it again. If you want longevity in your team, I think you need to let the birds develop and grow properly which can take two to three years. Just my o...

Re: Different ways of training.

I would be furious if my young birds behaved like that. I took my Youngstars 22 miles this afternoon, they landed together and all were in within 10 seconds. I was standing next to the sputnik and all I could see was feet dropping towards me. This is simply what I expect from pigeons that are ready ...
