Just had a phone call from Steve Higgins of Maidstone Kent. He has been looking after a yearling chequer hen of mine, for the last three days. I lost her from the tough Hexham 285 miles about 6 or 7 weekd ago. He said she was in a terrible state when he trapoed her. She is now getting better after getting some good nutrition into her. I said i would send for her, but he insisted on keeping her there until he gets to Lingfield in Surrey with his young birds. He will lib her from there and she should be with me in 20 mins. There are still good people out there.

Too many idiots out there Buster. I have had 3 birds come back in the last two years minus ets ring. I give them the £1.50 per ring if they need them that badly. Also one last year came back minus its life ring! I don't keep stock birds due to racing from a 12 x 6 loft, so the poor thing had to go. I felt gutted for days. The only time i cull is through illness ( usually a youngbird with a bad attack of young bird sickness ) or raptor attacks.

As you say some real idiots out there I do think sometimes they remove the ets rings so owners know they been in somewhere, I know not all do this and the only reason for removing life ring is where bird has dropped and they try to keep them

Brilliant news Les and well done to the fancier concerned, I hope she makes it home safely Les 🤞 I'm still 2 very nice yearlings that I had high hopes for missing from that Hexham 😣
I have to say that I have had two fanciers do the same for me from 2 different races, one in Margate and one in Newhaven, both birds made it home safely and have successfully completed a couple of races since.
Thankfully the majority are still decent and try to do the right thing but sadly as with all walks of life there are those who let everyone else down 😡

Great news Trev. I hope she makes it, as she was first or second bird in the five races she flew before Hexham.
