This afternoon, I had them out a little bit earlier, as I can at the weekend. The pigeons had a nice fly and poke around, then the old pigeons, sensing that the evening is getting earlier, shuffled in.
Something spooked the youngsters, and off they went. For an hour and a bit they flew very hard and fast, until it was getting cold and I had put a warm jacket on, and fed the rest of them.
Still they flew, and I had to shake the tin and whistle to get them down.,

And while this was happening, the magpie baby was looking hopeful.

No it isn't.
It is a wild bird, but has figured out that these people feed me! It will sit on your hand and bite you on the nose if you don't feed it.
I picked it up like a pigeon once. That gave it a fright, :o having it's wings held to it's body was not in it's programming. It has not put it off.
It landed on Catherine today, then jumped down and started demanding food.

G'day killer.

Ollie lives about a quarter of a mile away from me. He has had pigeons and chooks at his place over in the bush for about 50 years.
He is not well. His wife, Ellen, told me she didn't know what was going to give up first, his heart or his lungs.
All the pigeons are gone. Ellen said it is sad.
He was a very good flier back in the day. His Gaby Vandenabeele pigeons are very good.

Catherine had a poke around in the garden today, weeding.
When I got home she told me the magpie baby had been right there, right next to her hands all the time.
Extraordinary. :D
