A little off topic but another thing worth mentioning given the current situation with the BOP. The shorter you fly theoretically the less time your in the air the less chance you have of being taken out by BOP. Again I'm not having a dig lads only fly where they live but I don't think we can understate just what an impact BOP are having on racing these days. We've had bad years for birds being hawked but this has to be the worst. Our young bird loft is like a hospital ward. And just about every I speak to are suffering the same. The further pigeons have to fly it's obvious the more BOP they have to encounter, I wouldn't like to guess how many longer flying birds (and obviously shorter ones too) haven't made it home that would have been but for them bastard things.

They destroyed my team this year one time I had 8 birds with injuries 4 fed winners lost in 5 weeks
To top it all the first training toss since April after giving them a week off racing my best cock returns minus his tail
That was the end of the season for me
The days of 15-20 cocks to carry you sprinting to 300 miles are over even in my area where we don’t normally suffer so bad with the peregrine
I got got to fear putting them in the baskets on Friday by the 3rd week of May
