So I was mooching around on Facebook this morning (up early)
Came across this result
Look at the hen below, looks a nice thing.
Her achievement blew me away a little really
She was 1st (Only Bird on the Day) from Sagres a distance of 1237.96km - which equates to some 769 miles
Thing is, take a look at the route she had to fly!
Also of interest (to me anyway) is that this hen is bred from an inbred G.Son of Van Den Bulck's "KITTEL"
Interesting One

It is not surprising, here in Australia the Kittel bloodlines are succeeding in the longer races, and especially in the one loft races, which are often about 300 miles.

Greetings from the land down under.
Blessed is he who expecteth nothing, for verily, he shall not be disappointed.

What’s the longest of any races in Australia MurrayMurray wrote: ↑Sun Jul 28, 2024 7:43 am Also of interest (to me anyway) is that this hen is bred from an inbred G.Son of Van Den Bulck's "KITTEL"

Do you think it went over the water or do you think it would have hogged the coast line most of the way Mike? If it crossed the water it was unlikely to have been on its own. Makes you wonder what happened to the rest of the convoy!!
Back just enjoying club racing for the time being.
As "King" would always say "Plenty of time for more to work in yet"

Sometimes pigeons have no option but to cover large stretches of water King
We've seen this in various One Loft Races where they race from one island to another where nearly all the journey has no other option but to cross water
There's a bit of rough maths going on here so don't quote me on it
The hen covered 1370 metres per minute, which I'm thinking equates to just under 1500 ypm
In turn this equates to just over 15 hrs on the wing - which is obviously entirely feasible and supports why she might be the "only bird on the day"
