We've seen this in various One Loft Races where they race from one island to another where nearly all the journey has no other option but to cross water

There's a bit of rough maths going on here so don't quote me on it

The hen covered 1370 metres per minute, which I'm thinking equates to just under 1500 ypm

In turn this equates to just over 15 hrs on the wing - which is obviously entirely feasible and supports why she might be the "only bird on the day"
I agree Mike it's entirely feasible. And as you say some birds have no other option but to cross water. As Andy says what happened to the other birds? Very few birds will fly 15 hours over land never mind over water. The British 24hr record is held by Brian Denney 748 miles (on the day) flying 46.43 mph, 16 hours on the wing.

Yes, if I remember corrdctly (and I may well be wrong) but I think Blackpool's Dave Impett was very close too that day

Absolutely sensational for this hen to do 769 miles on the day - and even better to do it over water

If she's gone to land then she's flown further - which is even more brilliant

Your memory is correct Mike. Dave Impett clocked nearly at the same time as Brian but flew less.
