them new sprint birds which last week arrived high in percentages to the loft
Would it not be best to really make the effort for 3 weeks with them so they don’t get pulled about by others
Just so they get there line for next year
I fear without the daily short training them birds may not be any different on the short races next year to what you have and it won’t be to ybs to you could start again
Thanks Neil, I completely get what you are saying and I admire the hard work that you put in and the results that you achieve.
This year is the first year that I've ever actually paid for youngsters, unfortunately when I brought them I wasn't expecting such a testing year. I know that I probably won't do these birds justice as I've not put the hours in, which I do feel guilty about as its unfair on the Rich, who I brought them from. As it is for birds I've had from Buster, George and Alan Still. I can give you an A4 page full of reasons and exscuses as to why my set up and lack of training is as it is, but I don't make excuses or apportion blame, I know the ball is firmly in my court. I have lost my motivation this year to do much of anything, that will change in time, I just can't say when.
I do agree and have had the same thoughts myself that these birds will just get swallowed up with the rest of my birds next year if things don't change somewhere down the line. As I don't fly widowhood these birds have their best chance to prove themselves as youngsters, which I think they are compared to my own birds, and they are showing that with more effort they are probably capable of hitting the top.
All the best.

Just heard that the birds went up at 7.45, no wind given. I reckon the winners should be in between 10.15 and 10.30 !!!

Well I won't harp on how disastrous yesterday's race was as it's pretty much been covered in other topics, with the wind as it was I was hoping to get something around the 3hr mark so after 4hrs was getting very worried. At about 12.05 I saw 2 pigeons coming into the wind off the downs, both dropped well, one trapped straight away and was on the clock at 12.08, the other took a few secs to compose himself and was on at 12.09. I came out of the loft to see another coming off the hills, he did a couple of extra circuits and trapped at 12.13 he was followed by another one at 12.21, at this point I was quite relieved thinking the rest would continue to drop in now. Well that wasn't to be !! The wife wanted to go out so I left the clock running and went out for a couple hours, when we got home I was expecting to find the majority in but was horrified to find I still only had the 4 !!! The 4 I had were 3 from my old distance stock and 1 from Alan Still's stock, all my other new additions were still out.
By the time I went to the club at 6.40 I had 10/24 home, two of these were the Welsh birds, 1 was George's and 1 was from Buster's hen, the rest were my original stock.
When I got to the club I was shocked, and quietly relieved that it wasn't just me, to find out that I'd actually done better than most.
I had 1 more of George's home when I got back from the club and no more yet this morning, in speaking to George it turns out that the two of his that I got are out of his old distance stock. Hopefully a few more will turn up during the day 🤞
These are this weeks results and my clock sheet.

I mean in the context of "the race" your Fed winner beats your Club winner by over 30 min!

These are crazy crazy numbers

Days like yesterday are to be survived at best
