How do members prefer to move there young Cock now the season is ending
Do you put them in with the old cocks straight away / remove old cocks/ or let the young cocks moult out first

have few latebreds was thinking the same
Neil i would let them moult out first, before i moved them. There is enough stress involved in the moult, then when moving the young cocks over. Observation will be needed for fighting for boxes, i hope all goes well for you.
The day after my final YB race (the Sunday) is when I used to move the young cocks across into the widowhood loft
That's their future, their home, why delay the transfer?
I found it had no detrimental impact on the moult shifting em across

Did you have difficult older cocks that although my spare box’s are closed seem to want to claim them first sight of them opening up
I was thinking moult them out then remove the 3 older cocks in December for a month and close there box’s then let the young cocks claim there’s
But Mikes got me thinking with his post if I’m doing the right thing
Nah, just let em crack on Neil
There tends to be a bit of fun on Day 1
I'd be disappointed with the old cocks if they did welome new blood into their section with open arms
Having said that, your young cocks will outnumber the older ones so they'll be fine

In the past I had the odd young cock that flew the programme as a YB and then never showed itself as a cock until after the moult.
So that "cock" moulted out in his YB pen with the hen
He went through the moult no faster or slower than those that I'd moved
So for me, crack on

Neil, it is best what works for you, you dont keep them in your back yard mate.NeilA wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2024 12:55 pmI was thinking moult them out then remove the 3 older cocks in December for a month and close there box’s then let the young cocks claim there’s

Yes take your point Devo
As Mike knows
I have a plan to race 15 cocks 20 hens
Instead of just 18-20 cocks now the peregrine have started on me this year so the race team goes from 20 to 35 to cover things a bit more
But I am dreading picking the 12 cocks I need and with the moult and no race this week just gone I’m running out of chances for them to select themselves
