Being out in the country and out of range for several clubs, I was scheming to send some youngsters to One Loft Races.
I don't know that I will. I read something on Ad Schaerlaeckens' blog this morning that made me sit up.
We all know that OLRs have some ordinary outcomes, but look at this.

Serbian OLR lost 72%
Pattaya Thailand lost 75%
Hoosier Classic USA lost 80%
Capetown SA lost 84%
Adelaide South Australia lost 89%
Algarve Portugal lost 90%
Castellon Spain lost 92%
Kuwait OLR lost 92%
Mexico OLR lost 95%
Victoria Falls lost 97%

That's not all of them. Those figures come from Benzing so we can assume it's pretty much correct.
I might just save my money and my pigeons.
Greetings from the land down under. :D

You can add the Rpra one to the list
I think Buster posted there was 11 home at that time which I believe was many hours after the lib
From 540 entered originally in the spring

I’m not sure how far these race are off cruelty

How do you keep on top of health when you have all these pigeons mixed from all over the place from different fanciers. Got to be an impossible task to try & keep on top of any issues. Not good for the sport I'm afraid, everyone to there own thing but it's not for me.

I also think so many different ages will have such various degrees of development
Some will be running when others are just being weaned
I view it as a different sport to what I enjoy .

Great subject i would say, and everyone will have different views. And so they should, that is what the sport is about. So i cannot keep birds anymore due to my health, so this is where i do send youngsters to OLR,
I must point out before i do send youngsters to a OLR, i check out the data on the OLR around the world. They are my youngsters and i want the best for them, and their chance to show their true selves is paramount.

So this year i entered the German classic OLR, before the youngsters entered the loft. I did some research on the youngsters that was needed for that OLR. so i checked around Germany to find a good breeder. I found
What I felt was right, for me to send a team of 5 youngsters to the German classic OLR. After a couple of weeks of communication with the breeders, i took a trip to Germany to visit the lofts, where my birds were going
to be bred. Also to check out the birds the breeders of these youngsters. I spent 6 days out there, making sure i was sending the right youngsters to the OLR.

The youngsters were selected and i checked that they were going to have the right treatment before entering the OLR. It was agreed they would get another rota virus jab, before they went into the OLR. So that was my plans
before my youngsters went into the German classic OLR. Data shows 1306 youngsters went into the loft, and after training and 4 races . There will be 874 youngsters in the final race this weekend, i still have 2 youngsters in my team. The final race will be a very hard race, the youngsters flying from France across Luxembourg . And making their way across Germany, in ESE winds to the loft.

This is my way of staying in a sport i love.
Another important point is the veterinary care of the pigeons entrusted to us. We have hired two of the best veterinarians, Dr. Vincent Schröder and Dr. Henk de Weerd. This means that the pigeons are provided with your tried and tested products, among other things.

We are also supported by the companies Vanrobaeys, Tollisan and Heike`s Futteroase.

Yes I understand that you want to stay in the sport Devo & this is the only way to do that with you not being able to have pigeons.
So what happened to the 432 from the original intake.

I would have to say to that question Dave, the same as to what happens to birds racing in any country. Loss due to the health of the youngsters not being prepared for the OLR Vaccines, Also the problems of BOPS, in every country, I would say also the quality of the birds have to be another reason. I have always looked at a loss of 33% and your doing very well and that goes for any kind of racing.

We dont know what goes on in a race or a training toss, we just hope our birds return.

German classic OLR 2024 1306 entered the loft less 33% - 875.
