I see from the RPRA website that they are having their hotspot 2 race from Wincanton on Friday morning. They will be let go from the race course which is just the other side of the hill to me. About half a mile from me. It will be around 65 miles for them. I usually let my birds out just after 7am and get the them in at around 8.45am before leaving the old birds, and the youngsters that have taken up residence in the old bird loft, on open loft for the day. The youngsters are let out again at about 3pm.
The RPRA will be liberating around 750 pigeons and going on previous videos of their liberations they won’t clear very quickly. I could leave my birds in that morning but am tempted to let them out as usual. They will probably be flying when the RPRA liberate. Ours then could well mix with them. It could be a disaster but could also be a very good trainer for ours. I have had birds mix with others around here before and have always had them all back ok. I once had around 30 of mine flying when all of a sudden there were 200+ flying around. They went around a few times before mine broke out and all came in.
What is other members thoughts and recommendations on whether I should let them out or not? I could have around 50 of my pigeons out, both old birds and youngsters.

Mate have a think about it ,would you like guys at your liberation spots doing the same & holding birds at point longer than should be,, plus you could have the problem of strays ,if you want pigeons to mix & break ,take your birds say 10 k ,to another fanciers loft & get him to liberate them with his ,you’ll get a shock ,May take 4 or 5 times to work but it does ,cheers

I must admit that I did think that after I put the post on Killer. It wouldn’t be fair of me to upset their liberation, no I wouldn’t like someone doing it to me, so will keep ours in Friday morning. I certainly don’t need any more strays lol. Already got 6 here at present.

You have answered your own question, Andy.

As you say the One Loft Race pigeons are not going terribly well. I have an idea why.

In full agreement with Killer, I strongly advise you to leave the pigeons in for the day, or two things are going to happen, 100% guaranteed.
First, your youngsters are going to get mixed up with theirs while they circle around, and get carried away, and
Second, you will without doubt, get strays. And I don't think you want those strays.

Give them a lazy day. maybe they can go out for a spin latter on when the liberation has had a loong time to clear.
Greetings from the land down under. :D

It doesn’t matter if they go out or not as their not racing. I will still let them out in the afternoon but will keep them shut in during the morning. I don’t let them out Saturday mornings because of racing going on so will just be the same as that.
The RPRA one loft have already lost half of it’s original entrants and they haven’t gone past 40 miles yet.
I also saw that the Barcelona international one loft race over here sent to the Perpignan international, just over 700 miles to them. I’m not sure on the full figures but I think they had originally 400 youngsters from supposedly the best lofts from across this country and Europe as well as some from other countries. The birds sent to Perpignan were those left at 2 year olds. They got one pigeon back. This was after 7 days. Out of race time. In this race there were 56 UK birds timed in race time. The Barcelona one loft are claiming this bird to be a champion. If this is the only bird that they have left from the original entry of 400 it shows how hard the task of getting birds from 700+ miles is.
