Don’t really know what to do.

Talk about anything racing pigeon related here aslong as there isnt a section for it.

I’ve just seen the proposed race program for the CSCFC.

PRESS RELEASE.
The Committee of the Classic has listened to its members regarding the Race programme it originally put in place for 2023 and noted that the volume of resignations received are from members who have supported the Classic flying South. It has now been agreed that the club will hold races from North and South in 2023 thus being able to assess the viability of each route and cater for all fanciers.
Race 1. 6th May - Guernsey.
Race 2. 27th May - Wakefield.
Race 3. 17th June - Fougeres.
Race 4. 1st July – Hexham.
Race 5. 15th July - Thurso.
Race 6. 15th July - Bordeaux.
If any member who has resigned wishes to withdraw their resignation, please contact Clare Norman. No re-joining fees will be payable.

I had hoped that they were going to have a decent North Road program. With the other classics going South I now only have 3 north road races. Wakefield 184 mls, Hexham 269 mls, and Thurso 523 mls. The yearlings could have the first 2 races and the older ones could also have Thurso. I could send them to Wadebridge or Guernsey but that would be in the opposite direction.
Going to have to give it some thought.

It would mean jumping the yearlings in at 184 miles for their first race. I’m not worried about that particularly.

If they have been well trained should not really be a problem, no idea what I would do in that position

you don't think 3 races going north is plenty for your birds Andy

Yes George it is really. The distances are a good test for them. I wouldn’t really want yearlings to do more than a couple of races at those distances anyway although would have liked one around 350 miles for them. The good thing is is that there is a good amount of time between each race. So plenty of time to get them in the right nesting positions and ready for each race. It does mean that I could be sending 40+ pigeons to the 2 shorter races. I have 12 two year olds and over that could go to Thurso.
It seems that it’s going to be a season where I won’t get much racing in. I suppose if I had more races available I would just split the team more, but would be pleased with what I had left if they had had 2 or 3 of those races.

You say you don't know what to do, but really you do.
You have to get them fit and ready for the races as they are programmed. It's a mental thing as much as anything. You have to get the mind set to plan and execute a training regime.
If there are not 12 races so you can split them up and race them into condition, you have to get them fit yourself.
But you know that. :)

I had a good mate back in New Zealand, he's passed away now, who used to send a box of pigeons to me on the local freight company. He would drop them at the depot in the morning, I would get them in the afternoon. I would pick them up feed and water them, and put them in the garage for the night.
Next morning I would release them.
They were good training tosses for them. He did it often.
Oh, he lived about 150 miles away.

Go with your own gut feelings🤔
Get them Right….if in Doubt don’t..at sometime they will have to be tested….onwards & upwards😉
A few years ago now …this has always stuck in mind what he said to me. ( Nightmare)🥲😕
Fred a Top flyer on the South road decided to turn North…he flew Soontjens with many Fed winners with multiple
1st prize winners
Guess what he lost the lot during that season
He made his choice to turn them,But if that had been me I no doubt would have bred from those fantastic birds of his and started with their youngsters on the north.
It Still hurts him to this day
All roads lead to Rome as they say.

I know when we turned North from South in 1980 a lot of South Road pigeons were lost. The youngsters I have and will be racing as yearlings have only been trained North. Most of the older birds have also already flown North so not a problem there.
I am still considering what to do as far as the BICC and BBC are concerned. I have been looking at the figures. The renewal for the BICC is £40. Phil is having his vet visit on the 11th November, and because they have managed to get 14 lofts together that’s going to cost £45, which is a good price. The BICC includes 3 channel races other than the internationals. So that works out at £28/race before even sending a pigeon. I think I’ll resign until things sort themselves out. I have until February to decide though just in case they put on some North road races.
