Things are starting to shoot in the garden. Crocuses and dwarf irises are out. The snowdrops have been out for a while. The shrubs, roses and trees are all budding up. Won’t be long before the garden starts to bloom again. It has been a lovely day here today and after getting back from taking Roxanna shopping I set about trimming down the large tree we have in the garden. I do seem to have to do it every 2 or 3 years. When it gets too tall and spreads it does stop a lot of sun getting onto the lofts. I don’t know that at 60 I should still be climbing trees to cut them lol. Roxanna won’t stay in the garden while I’m doing it as she doesn’t like to see me up in the branches of the tree cutting them down. I have got a lot of cuttings to cut up ready to take to the dump now lol.
I haven’t had the birds out for around 3 months now since splitting them up. Partly because of the restrictions around bird flu but also because I know a lot of the hens that are in the young bird loft would try to get back into the old bird loft and a lot of the yearling cocks would want to go back into the young bird loft. So I’ll be glad to pair up in a couple of weeks and start letting them out again.
Spring is on it’s way.
Looking good mate, I cut all my trees back last autumn ready for this year noticed a couple long ones still to come off but will wait a while, as you say some trees starting to bud daffs and most other bulbs going well and open or opening, my hydrangea got new leaves and shoots for about month or so now grass needs cutting but to wet as our garden lowest and all surrounding ones run into mine keeping it wet, on another not cocks are in full swing must have about 20 running the hens but will throw away any eggs over next couple weeks then let some start sitting from next round
Sadies Lofts home of decent birds just a useless loft manager, and now a confirmed loser but proud

Well done Andy, I think I'd cut that one just below the bird feederAndy wrote: ↑Sun Feb 19, 2023 8:37 pm Things are starting to shoot in the garden. Crocuses and dwarf irises are out. I spent the day cutting the hedge between us and our neighbours, its actually their hedge but Dave has just had an operation on his back so as they are such good neighbours and friends that I'd get it done for him before the wild birds start nesting.
We have crocuses and snow drops out as well with daffodils and narcissi not far behind, next week I'll try and get the borders tidied up and weeded.
Most of my pairs are now down on eggs, its earlier than planned but I will let some of these hatch. I did wean my first 3 babies this weekend which were out of the stock birds I obtained from our friend the late Des Coulter, I have two more that I'll wean during the week and 3 out of the 4 of these pairs are back down on their second round.Buster121 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 19, 2023 8:58 pm Looking good mate, I cut all my trees back last autumn ready for this year noticed a couple long ones still to come off but will wait a while, as you say some trees starting to bud daffs and most other bulbs going well and open or opening, my hydrangea got new leaves and shoots for about month or so now grass needs cutting but to wet as our garden lowest and all surrounding ones run into mine keeping it wet, on another not cocks are in full swing must have about 20 running the hens but will throw away any eggs over next couple weeks then let some start sitting from next round

That bush is actually a bit further down the garden but it does need a trim.Trev wrote: ↑Sun Feb 19, 2023 10:29 pmWell done Andy, I think I'd cut that one just below the bird feederAndy wrote: ↑Sun Feb 19, 2023 8:37 pm Things are starting to shoot in the garden. Back just enjoying club racing for the time being.
It was the tree I meant Andy, I'd cut it down below the feeders and stick a bird table on the trunk, a lot less hard work at our age lolAndy wrote: ↑Mon Feb 20, 2023 7:53 amThat bush is actually a bit further down the garden but it does need a trim.Trev wrote: ↑Sun Feb 19, 2023 10:29 pmWell done Andy, I think I'd cut that one just below the bird feederAndy wrote: ↑Sun Feb 19, 2023 8:37 pm Things are starting to shoot in the garden.
