Talk about anything racing pigeon related here aslong as there isnt a section for it.

Since finishing on the farm last year I try not to work on Fridays anymore, yesterday was one of those Fridays so I took the opportunity to spend some time in the loft and get the birds vaccinated. I managed to vaccinate all my race birds and after last years disaster all my babies that are over 3 weeks old. While doing the birds I sadly discovered that yet another bird had gone πŸ˜”πŸ˜‘ She was a little two year old hen bred down from the birds I was given from Rich (Bryn) a couple of years ago, sadly she was only one of very few that I have left from those birds. She was raced as a youngster but returned injured from her only race last year, looks like she has now fed the local hawks 😑 I didn't let the birds out today, I need to get the birds in my small shed vaccinated tomorrow so I can start letting them out and I also want to get the ETS rings on last years late breds plus a few older birds that I need to either race or move on.

Sad to lose another damn hawks, I hope you followed manufacturers guidelines on the vaccination and put straight back into fridge with the hole sealed so as not to let it go off
Sadies Lofts home of decent birds just a useless loft manager, and now a confirmed loser but proud :D :D

Shame that you have lost another one Trev. Good that you got most vaccinated. Mine were all done 2 weeks before pairing. I still have a lot of ETS rings to put on though.

Hmmm not sure I agree with that one, that's just manufacturers marketing lol πŸ˜πŸ˜‚
I'm still using some that's over 2 years old on birds that won't be racing !!!

On the whole vaccine storage buisness I'm not sure how important the refrigeration actually is !!! Its say to store and transport refrigerated yet its delivered by standard post πŸ€”πŸ€”
Also when we were racing at Worthing s there were very few members one member used to purchase the vaccine for the whole club so the vaccine used by one member before being passed onto the next so was in and out of refrigeration a number of times. Now obviously there are reasons why these guidelines are given and the effectiveness of the product could be compromised but as you Andy, having been in farming for many years I also know that some of these guidelines are there to protect the manufacturers and to make you the consumer have to buy more.

Not saying it is but this may have been the cause of the sickness you had earlier

I get what your saying Buster but the sickness I had was only in my youngsters and they hadn't been vaccinated, I do use the in date vaccine for anything that is going to race partly as I don't think it's fair on other fanciers if I don't but at the price we pay I do begrudge throwing any away so am happy to use it on Any birds not going to be raced !!
