To win ybs you have to train 4/5 days here not far say 20-25 miles so they don’t even circle if you don’t your be 5 mins behind and to be honest in 5 mins I will have 70 percent of mine before you as would others in the fed

I used to be very keen on training, especially my youngsters, but I just can't get myself motivated for it these days and as I've not been that interested in the short races I've not worried about it too much. However it has become more apparent to me since joining Littlehampton that those that don't train do get left behind !!! I couldn't understand how when I was still with Worthing that we were always 200ypm behind the fed winners, I now do believe that this is partly down to training !!!

I think your right Trev
I’m a lazy trainer I know I should train my old birds so there sharp to win sprints
I do put the effort in for 8-9 weeks with ybs
With a old birds on widowhood I can still compete with my lazy non existent training but with ybs I would have no chance if I didn’t

Bang on Neil

Watch a greyhound over 380 metres

He doesn't come out the traps and scratch his arse and wonder which way to go

By that time the race is done and dusted effectively

Races are won at the start of a race - not the end

You can "lose" a race at the home end - but races are won getting away bright eyed and bushy tailed

Mike exactly what Mark Bulled tells me fed races are win at the lib point and the first few miles depending on that line they take
I also have a convoyer as a mate who told me the difference in time a fed take to clear compared to a 6 birds was a world of difference
Maybe it’s the numbers but his view was the 6 bird was heavily selected birds in form not just picked off a perch on a Friday

Sprinting races are won early doors

I can prove it too

This is how I like to see a YB team operate in their first race

Clearly well schooled, in great health, and well disciplined

That is the absolute truth of the matter. I've been saying that for years.
The winners are always in the front bunch leaving the liberation. If they are still circling and let the leaders get away, the race is over.

NeilA wrote: Sun Jul 07, 2024 9:32 pm How far have we got our ybs trained ?
I have had 4 at 4 miles
Going 10 tomorrow we start on the 27th
Sounds ok but not a lot of time with the weather up and down
Have you ever had a bad toss at this distance Neil? Over the years I've heard of some right disasters at these short tosses. Recall a local fancier once have 12/70 from just 3 miles!
Hi King
What I do is let out about 6am
Feed in with 7 gram per bird of a mix of barley and seed . Then go to work and train after work so I get the fly out of them plus there hungry so not really had a bad toss there
Each time I have arrived home with them in
Normally I only go there once maybe twice but this year I went 3 times not for any reason just to keep them training as the weather has been so poor here I just got one in between showers yesterday
Tonight they will go about 8/9 miles for 3 days then to 15 for 3 days
After that I go 20 miles 3 times then 25 miles north east and 25 miles north west both about 3 times
After that as many as I can at 20 miles ( my break point and 3-4 nights a week for the 5 or 6 weeks I race at 20 miles
Hello NeilA, sorry to ask you I've looked at this post I can't get my head around it please can you clarify for me.
So you said you feed in 7 grams per pigeon to get them in, in old money NeilA what's that in ounces, I've tried to covert it but without much luck would it be about 1/4 ounce & in total per day what do they get in ounces.
Regards Dave
