I think some of the old strains get left off pedigree and only the more fashionable ones remain

You wonder where all these great strains go they don’t disappear
Yet few are referenced in modern pedigrees
These old great strains in my opinion die with the founder. Future generations can be said to be bred down from these old strains but direct can only come from the masters themselves. All of these “strains” nowadays are all breed down from the old strains but given the names of the fanciers whose lofts they come out of, and so they should.
They simply get absorbed into the family of the new owners. George Buscheart was well known for it I believe. Regardless of what a pigeon was, if it was in his loft it was a Buscheart.
And the Vd Bulcks, look back a generation and they are Heremans. The pigeons are still there, but people like new names.

That has to be true Neil these 'new' families don't just appear out of thin air.

I stand to be corrected, but I recall reading that Louis Van Loon's pigeons were Jannsens, and he added the Cattryse to them to create the formidable strain we know as Van Loons.

In the case of Van Den Bulck they are a terrifically inbred pigeon, and thir success has been incredible really
You've got the 2 brothers "Goede Rode" and "Broer Goede Rode"
You've got the 3 sisters "Golden Leo 999", "Golden Leo 40000" and "Pithivierske 998"
Absolutely EVERYTHING goes back to these pigeons within the Bulck family

Here's a good example of what I mean with the breeding
3 of the 4 G.Parents there are "Goede Rode", "Broer Goede Rode" and "Golden Leo 40000"
The only one "missing" is "Olympic Rosita" - and guess what. She's a G.Daughter of "Broer Goede Rode" and "Golden Leo 40000"
Take a look at this cock (image taken when very young)
