Strawmax is compressed straw. Maybe the lot you got had some grain in it that was not threshed out when it was harvested and attracted the birds. I read of horses eating it. Not nibbling it, eating it.

Yes that's possible Murray a fair point, Neil I've used this all year & never had this even when they weren't many weeks old from January, thought I'd freshen it up after a clean out of the old stuff, have gone back to Easybed again, will see what they are like again tomorrow hopefully i will see an improvement.

i have always used easibed all year round

I've used Easibed and Strawmax, not had a problem with either. I do quite like using deep litter but I have gone back to just using a floor dressing now though, I got fed up with constantly filling up the feeders, I clean out once a week and put the dressing down.

Do you see your birds for the whole hou that they are flying Dave ?? and how far are the nearest fields ?? How are the birds doing now ??

Either I cleaned every day - or when time was more precious I used grills on the floor

I use deep litter in the cocks from October to February
I use grills in the hens though
For some reason I couldn’t get on with grills in the cocks I seemed to have loft the warmth but it may just be me as many use them and win will
Stock are on grills
Youngsters on deep litter always but it’s cork dry I think it’s dangerous if used to cover a damp or part damp floor

Morning Trev, I can see them they are always in the air, if they come down on the house roof a ball goes up I don't want them on different roofs they are flying in the sky or down & back in loft. This estate was built on farm land my pigeons have never gone fielding in all the time I've been at my address 35 years, the nearest open fields is 200 yds away but as I said they are in the air or in the loft. I've seen an improvement in 4 but the youngest is still the same, just think this might take a bit longer to sort itself.
