Hit the nail on the head, Steve. It was way everyone always did it so it is simply accepted as the way to do it.Steve Howells wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2024 7:14 amI suspect Neil it’s down to tradition, a good fancier does it and others simply follow without question.NeilA wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2024 4:29 pm Why is it traditional to feed a dupurative mix or barley more at the start of the week yet maize is popular at the end yet both are high carbs and they don’t carry much protein or fat
I feed Barley every day including Thursday just changing fats as the wind / distance dictates
Yet the traditional way is barley then on to a super widowhood type feed I don’t think I will ever understand that way of feeding why use a widowhood mix with a few peas in at the end of the week when you need carbs and fats then
It was not always the case. Many years ago, Jos Van Limpt "De Klak" fed all his pigeons on a basic mix 365 days a year and was a legend. More and more are finding it simpler and just as effective to feed the same diet every day, and the pigeons have less digestive upsets.
I used to 'break down and build up'. Couldn't be bothered now.
