Hello Neil, would the cold pressed oil be better than the oil seeds, in that it would be faster to get into the system of the pigeons.

Your right to much makes them a bit wet I did a couple of little experiments but I also find to much oil seed does that to mine like the hemp etc as they look perfect Wednesday then some Fridays I think why can’t they look the same
It’s either that I remove barley from the feed makes then a little damp due to less fibre or the oil seeds one of the two
This year I’m leaving a bit of barley in the mix all week probably 50 per cent Monday 10/15 per cent Thursday night
I was thinking maybe a very light glaze Thursday morning and through to Thursday night just enough to notice it
Then Friday no fats or oils but a very high carbohydrate feed maybe but not sure
I think the best way is to see how many grams of fats are in sunflower oil then convert that to ml’s so we know how much fat we are using
If we go with 3g fat per hours fly but we also have fat in all corns to add on
I think under 2 hours we probably get enough fat from any mix containing 10 per cent fat like say beyers galaxy
Say we fed 40 grams of that Thursday
We know it’s 10 pc fat ( according to beyers) then we have loaded 4grams with the carbs that’s 30-60 mins out the carbs then hour 20 out that 4grams so we get a 2 hour race
After the 2 hours is when we need to add the fats at 3g per bird per hour
Unfortunately my brain isn’t clever enough to work it out I will do a bit of google to see what 10 ml of sunflower oil is in grams then see if it gives the amount of fat to grams
There is a thing on you tube of beyers promotion which Ulrich Lemmens speaks about the use of fat seeds in the mix all week
rather than the traditional feeding
Unfortunately I haven’t a clue how to copy it on this thread
It got me thinking of oils more than seeds that he uses due to the Win Muller article regarding fat seeds needing 48 hours to be ready for action
Neil
Think about factoring this into your thinking on Friday

You know I haven’t plucked that out of thin air
