Do you mean check other members birds are ok ? Unless they have a health issue or a obvious knock that a member has missed I couldn’t give a toss about them ,when I mark I hope they handle shit

When basketing birds for the race, I would be checking the birds for anything that may not be right. Observation goes on in all different parts of the sport. In lofts, marking stations. Also in sales and shows,
so I will leave it at that.

It’s just basic common sense your posting like we are all novices without a clue what to do and your making like your a top ex fancier

Have to agree with that Devo. Since the change of circs regarding my loft, I have been scraping out every day and I am loving the change in the birds response to me especially in the y.birds - as many of you guys suggested would happen.
However, it has its down side too coz while I am cleaning out ( just over an hour) I am not able to observe my racers loft flying. So this thread has made me realise that I need to change my routine in some way.

I wouldn’t never be in the loft why my cocks fly I’m watching every movement they make how they fly , is it circles is it straight is it low is it high are they breaking or staying as a group , how many mins there out of sight

Observation has loads of different layers to it though Devo

Many dion't know what to look for and even more don't know how to put it right 'cos they aren't aware of what's wrong to start with

To be honest mate, I don't have a clue what any of that means, the only bit I know is when they go off clapping,
I know nothing about small circles, disappearing, flying high and flying low. My idea of observation while they are flying is to just sit and enjoy them and I have missed doing that while I am scraping out.
I would love to know more about these things if any one would be kind enough to enlighten me.

If your pigeons fly low around your garden in circles there hungry or not in great health
If you pigeons fly high and go racing across your garden on lines then gone for 5 -10 mins there not bad at all
Your see the difference
You don’t want them on a piece of string
Around your garden If they don’t fly atleast 40 mins there over fed or not healthy

Thanks Neil, I am not a novice and have had a few half decent results more by luck than judgement. I came to racing a bit later in life but have had many distractions due to "life" getting in the way.
I kept them.as a kid for a short while but didnt have that same apprenticeship that you must've had.
I've kept them for a while now but have never had a mentor as such and sites like this and the old pigeon chat have probably saved me many years in what I have learnt and why I am eternally grateful to you guys for your support.
