Some of them flew non stop for 6 hours! They were having a ball!!! I reckon some of them must have flown 200 miles
I think I will leave them in today for a rest day and give them a big feed of vegetables and some garlic and cider vinegar.
There is probably not much point in training them 10 or 15 miles any more. The first races are only about 60 miles and they can do that with one wing behind their backs.

The youngsters were bright as buttons after the 'big day out' yesterday, so I let them out for a bath and a stretch at 2.30 pm.
They messed about and had a flap around and a bath for about half an hour, then something triggered them and off they went!
The whole lot! Gordon and Mrs Gordon, the other stock birds, young birds, they had a good old time for about an hour. After a while the old pigeons started putting themselves in, and at 4 o'clock I called them in.
The birds are in great order.

The feed is pretty much the same as always, but I have taken a bit of the wheat out of it. That's the only difference with the corn really, but I bought a couple of kilos of mixed canary seed and give the young birds 1 tablespoon of it with a fish oil capsule every day, mixed in the feed. Doesn't sound like much, but the pigeons are in lovely order.
When they have finished eating I put the leftovers in the tin with a little race mix and put a pinch on the perch or box of every one. It started out just putting a little in front of a couple of small ones. Now they all expect it!
It's good to see them so switched on and happy, so I like doing it.

I had a stray youngster come in a couple of days ago from Radstock. I released her from Tesco car park in Shepton yesterday evening. Only about 8 miles from its home. Had a phone call to say she had returned . The chap who’s pigeon it is is a good fancier. He says that he has just started training his youngsters and has had a terrible time. He started with 66 and after 5 tosses is now down to 34 and hasn’t got them half the distance he wants to get to before racing starts.

Good to see she got home, the losses are unreal again this year
