I saw something today that I don't recall seeing before.
I have a pair that hatched a single youngster in the first round. It's 24 days old. They are in a big box and they have a second nest bowl and a second round of eggs.
I just happened to be out there today and saw the baby, 24 days old, on the nest and pushing the eggs under her. Her mother was out in the aviary, and her father had jumped off the eggs to get a drink.
Extraordinary.
The wee thing hasn't grown enough wings to leave it's nest box, but it's gathering eggs under it!

That baby is gone to it's new home.
David picked me up today on the way to Horsham, another 70 miles west of here. He had a dozen youngsters to deliver to a fancier and I took three of mine for him.
It was a nice visit, although I do struggle a bit with loft visits. The bloke had a hamper of cocks and a hamper of hens for us to handle. There's only so many times you can go Wow!
Make no mistake, he's got some very well performed pigeons, and one or two in particular were stunning. One was a half sister to my Billion Baby and Trillian Baby and Roadrunner. Absolutely beautiful. And a wing to die for. I made them laugh when I pretended to put her behind my back and sneak out.
Kevin is a lovely bloke. He's a bit like me, he doesn't spend his time hanging around other people's places, he is at home looking after his pigeons. They are very settled and in great order. His loft is a typical Aussie one, with 4 sections made of steel framing covered with a steel roof and walls. The back wall is the side wall of the garage. He has air gaps at both ends of the shed at ground level and quite a lot of wire on the front. It can get bloody hot there in the summer so it is well planned, especially since it faces east.
Interesting that another bloke in Horsham who I have never met bought 12 Breeders plate rings @ $30 each and left them for me.
Better breed some good youngsters, then. Word is out that I breed pigeons that win races.
