I suppose letting them come home to a shut loft, and let them in for their reward, is out of the question ?. You may have to pick the best from a bad bunch, including running the Gauntlet.
I think that would be a risk Albert
Not really peregrine wise but more sparrow hawk / odd cat
I probably will have to just carry on as it is
Thanks for trying to help

If you do the pigeons totally on your own and you train or you want to train soon in small groups of say 5 birds from a team of 30 so 6 libs
How do you reward the birds on return
Obviously the first ones to feed but the later ones what’s there reward ?
I thought of dupurative left in the tray then the later ones will more than likely just find barley so not a great reward
Any ideas or methods anyone can suggest
With the upmost respect Neil you're missing the woods for the trees as they say. When your pigeons come home generally, what's the first thing they do or certainly within the first few seconds?

A good point there Steve. I would say they should trap as wanting to be back in the loft.
I know it’s a bit different with youngsters but I never trap my widowhood cocks with food. The trap because they want to get back into their box. Food is a second thought for them and not given until I’m ready.

Eat and Drink from a race
I dont know from training as I’m never home but the foods all gone when I get home
Mine trap really well from calling them after there 45 min to the loft it’s shut up in a blink of a eye but if I want to train in small groups I need to think of a benefit not fly home but race home from when I drop the flap , not sure if a bird just coming to water will after a while think there’s not much of a welcome there and slowly they start to put just a little less effort in to there 30 seconds slower from 15 miles than they were previously

But these are youngsters Andy not widowhood cocks
I need them not to circle at home they must race for the loft come in low and hit the trap , I can’t have them flying around home twice when they arrive
So they need incentive for example I know a real ace who has less perch’s in his yb loft than pigeons as he’s convinced they trap better knowing that if there not in the shed they sit on the floor

Think I need more than that Steve I don’t want to start removing water for 8 hours like some do it’s not my thing from training I worry I get a bad one and then they dehydrate

I can see you are very keen to do your best Neil and admire your thinking and desire. But you are in a difficult position having to do it on your own. I do think you’re overthinking and worrying unnecessarily. I don’t think they will fly any faster, or slower, if you’re waiting for them or not. I know your thinking about them trapping as soon as they return but I don’t think they will trap any slower on a race day when you’re there especially if your trapping is good when exercising. They know that your call is their signal to trap.
So if you want to train in small groups I would probably just leave the trap open for their return and don’t put any food down. Just reward them with their feed when you get home.
I might be wrong but that is my thinking Neil.

To be honest Andy my club has 2 really excellent fanciers to compete with and others that on there day are good
In minute my two club mates will have multiple birds so 2 turns at home you go from winning to halfway down the sheet
So they really do need to race the last 10 miles with that extra push
I can train the group to food but i fancied small teams or 5/6 racing each other plus that way they can chase the others home if they go up in 2 min gaps
Again to improve the speed
But without a partner it’s pretty impossible to do what I want

Someone write that down and frame it.
