I differ from some, in that I have a bit of a pied piper thing about me. I have a a big wild Cockatoo that sits in the tree out the back door and yells until I go out and feed it. And it talks to me I can be 6 or 8 feet away from it. Wild bird.
Same with the pigeons.
I have a stock pigeon who is very aggressive, growls and bites, but is very disappointed if I don't take time to pat him and talk to him..
The thing is about the sport.
He has a son and Heir.
The grey ghost in the top middle of this picture is 35 days old. When I was scraping out today, he was on my back growling away
And the red hen is all googly eyes

This is what the sport is about for me. I am an old jockey, and love wining races.
But when I go out to the shed and see them all excited to see me, to show me the new baby, or the new egg, or tell me that I am an arsehole because "I can see the bottom of the grit bowl" .
I like winning races. I love it when I go in the shed and they all want to be respected.

As we have said before, pigeon racing/homing is a sport anyone can enjoy. We all have different ideas and goals but all enjoy what we do, otherwise we'd pack it in. Without those at the bottom of the sheet where is the pleasure of being at the top !!
I send to every race in the club regardless as I enjoy racing and want to support the club, I know I won't win most weeks, but if I can pick up a win or two in the longer races then I've had a good season. Yes I'd like to get a bit closer in the shorter races and need to put in more effort, but it's not what drives me on.
I have had my loft inspection this year and will join the BICC again with a view to racing the channel as well as North Road with the Federation.

I am a realist but I guess that also makes me a loser! I realised some time ago that I could never compete at club/fed level. I dont have the resources, time or the wherewithall to do so. My family always take priority and up until recently ran a business.
To hear you guys talk about what you need to do to get to the prize table leaves me with no illusion that I don't even want to join you at that table.
The legend Anthony Webster once described ppl like me perfectly in a post on the old chat, more or less saying that I was indeed a loser. I don't disagree with any of it but one thing I never do is make excuses for me or my birds.
I enjoy the club banter, company and craic but I rarely have a clock set for club races.
My only aim, goal, dream, whatever you want to call it is to get a bird in the clock from Barcelona and simply getting them home from any of the races leading up to it gives me absolute pleasure and makes me a winner in my eyes.
We are all very different.

Good luck David , hope your dream comes true
I must say, it is really good to read some of the feedback from members. I would say great club members, enjoying the sport and time with the birds. Well done for all the hard work you have put in to keep the sport going, I wish you all the best of luck for the new season ahead. Now get stuck in and bring home a winner.
Your not a loser mate as your honest and know what time etc you have I’m sure your get in from Barcelona.Diamond Dave wrote: ↑Mon Dec 30, 2024 11:13 am I am a realist but I guess that also makes me a loser! I have a bloke in my club sends for fun I breed him 8 babies every year so he has a bit of youth in his team I know he will have them walking around the garden hardly trained but it keeps him going and now and again he gets a card
Losers to me are more like the ones that make out they didn’t want to win whilst still spending fortunes on stock and training like mad etc
I do believe a lot more send to win than let on though
