It think it was always a requirement from DEFRA. But of course before the issues with bird flu and CPH numbers it was never enforced. Also no one would know who or how many birds people had. The CPH was the thing that changed it. A holding number (CPH) is required in agriculture and so any birds would have been registered that were kept on farms already.
I see so it was just poor enforcement before
Thanks

It is APHA not DEFRA you should be receiving them from.
I got a CPH number for the 50 birds plus but still heard nothing yet.
Do they have a mobile No for you.

Hi Albert
They have my information on the form and definitely my email as they sent my number on my email and I am like King with no updates received
I only use my mobile for contact numbers these days an i imagine that was a requirement on the form

I've been registered since the beginning of all this, I've had previous notifications if I've been either the surveillance or no fly zones, nothing otherwise !! I've had no notification so far this year.
Unfortunately this is hear to stay and will be a threat every year, at some point they will make the decision that all our birds need vaccinating.
Yes Andy, even if you have just one bird kept "outside" you now need a CPH number, not sure about being able to buy rings but you certainly won't legally be able to race or show without a CPH number.
Yes Goose, APHA are part of DEFRA and it is them you should hear from.

Trev you mention vaccination, when you fly from over the channel, you must sign on your form for every race, that your birds are not vaccinated against Avian flue.

Thanks for that Albert, I'm didn't know that but I'm not surprised !!
This year will be my first year sending over the channel since all this red tape was put in place so I'm not sure what goes on the form yet, as far as I know I've got all I need now.

A farm worker in England has tested positive for bird flu after catching the virus from an infected flock.
The person in the West Midlands case is understood to have symptoms, but is said to be well and being monitored at a specialist infectious disease hospital ward.
The farm worker is the seventh person to test positive for bird flu in the UK since 2021 and only the second symptomatic infection. All people caught the virus from being in close contact with birds.
