I use to leave beans in 24/7 and feed once a day with a light mix like Gerry plus and some fat seeds
My birds flew well from 250/300 to 500 in that feeding it’s a method I would definitely use again if the time comes to race them distances

As you know Neil, distance is what I'm interested in so it works ok for me. I might feed a bit lighter on the early races, just to make them a little more competitive, but will still have the longer races in mind.

Is it protein your building in them mate
If you were to feed light say a barley maize wheat type how many weeks out from a 350 plus mile race would you look to bring in more protein

There really is nothing scientific in my methods Neil, and I honestly don't look at how much protein etc they are getting. After 50+ years keeping and racing pigeons I just go on my experience, the birds tell me what they need through handling, observation and performance, good old fashioned stockmanship.
As I say, at the moment the birds are on an all round mix with added barley, they will go onto the SS sport at the end of March, after the first couple of races are out of the way I'll start adding the Regal mix and increasing the beans. I'll be starting this a bit earlier this season as I'm hoping to send with the BICC which means a bit more distance a but sooner. The weather also plays a big part of course as this will determine the type of stress/pressure the birds are put under, so can alter their dietary requirements.

They look nice and clean
For sprinting as a base I like the look of the low Pro mix they do

They are nice mixes mate, far too many choices though lol

And some are very similar you wonder if there a need to have that many
