Just catching up on this thread. Can I ask all those that use the garlic if you seal the bottle/container during the overnight process or is it left open.

I don't leave the crushed garlic soaking overnight. It would be very potent the next morning! I put the garlic in an ordinary 600 ml water bottle with lukewarm water and leave it for 2 or 3 hours before straining out the garlic. With a tablespoon of organic apple cider and diluted to 4 or 5 litres, if you stick your finger in a drinker and taste it, it has a bit of a bite.
Given to adult pigeons, I make it a little bit stronger. When they are feeding nest babies like mine are now, I am cautious. Small babies have delicate throats and stomachs.
Use garlic and cider vinegar. Use it often. Just be careful that you don't make it too strong.

I crush then put in in the drinker 2 cloves on Friday morning and put fresh water in after about 11am they have been fed and watered Saturday morning
I did leave it in for 2 days with no obvious problems as it’s cold but took Murray’s advice and halved to time

I only use it winter I forgot to add that as I’m not sure about it sat in warmer water

I agree, Neil. If you are home and can change the water, like I can now, fine. You are working so I think you are being sensible.

But if your thinking about mite etc I knew a guy that was a keen gardener and always put garlic in his watering cans to water the tomatoes etc in his greenhouse as he said it kept green fly and other things off them
Not sure if it did but he always did it

No, never done that. I used to put a tiny pinch of Condys crystals {potassium permanganate) in the bath water, but I ran out. Must get some more.

Ah, I wasn't thinking about creepy crawlies or anything like that
I was thinking more for conditioning the feathers - lol, might seem like I am obsessed with feather condition!
Perhaps I am barking up the wrong tree! but heres the thing - I have taken everyone good advice about putting the garlic in the water (thankyou) and whats left in the bottle after a week, I just wondered about putting it the bath water rather than tipping it away....?
