Hi Mike i have to be honest with you i like to race every race all the way through i look after them all year so when racing starts we race. I fly the chaos system i only have a small set up 28 foot loft no stock birds some old birds that dont race any more for breeding i try to buy young pigeons in every season from your old fed (worcs). Also the new north road Amal run a futurity race from Alnwick so i buy some youngsters in that we raced last season for 17 grand one race just in are section the money split breeder buyer 50 places. Not all the prizes were won so young birds Alnwick as got to be my aim .cheers jack

Hi Jack

Yes I think i know that YB race. I think that’s the race my friend Rob Pearson focusses on. Are your YB on Darkness?

With the OB are you adjusting the feed at all as distance increases?

Hi Mike Rob is in the north section i am in the centre section and there is a south section all sections have their own prize money. They sell 300 rings in each section at £6 each then have a WhatsApp auction and what ever money they make in the section they race for the money. Yes i adjust the feed on the old birds as the distance gets greater. The young birds are on darkness just have to get my young birds to race like Robs cheers jack

Rob’s birds Jack will be healthy, super fit and well motivated - sounds easy doesn’t it

The good news is all of that falls within your powers too

If we look at motivation, there.s many forms that are working well at present

The ‘best’ is young cocks on widowhood, but this requires room, time and hard work. It’s not easy

Next best is ‘sliding door’ but again requires room to have the sexes separated

One tip - if you run the sliding door then you want your big race to fall on the 3rd time you run the door open

By then they’ve learned what’s going on and they’re looking for it

There are options Jack

You can create ‘hidey holes’ for them (dark corners where 2 can snuggle)

You can put nesting material in on Friday lunch (doesn’t matter if you have birds paired or not)

You can put 2-3 old hens in a box for a week, the week before the big race and then throw them in with the youngsters on basketing day

Let your imagination run riot
