Or does anyone else remember Jos 'De Klak' Van Limpt?
One of the greats. Fed all his pigeons on a cheap mixture all year round.
No. You cannot win races feeding rubbish. And yes, pigeons race very well on good clean feed.
It isn't an art.

I do , my cocks I haven’t seen for 37 mins since they went out today but it’s more than likely the wrong way to feed
No, if they are flying out of sight for half an hour, I reckon what you are doing is working.
Same as my big youngsters. They always fly out of sight for the first 30 or 40 minutes in the morning.
This is a great illustration. What you are feeding is quite different from what I am feeding. And both work brilliantly!
I am just cruising along, doing what I feel they need, you are giving it a bit more attention, and yet, here we are. :D

Thing is when you say you weigh people think it’s restricted feed it can be the opposite and can be for knowledge for the future depending when you weigh it as you can imagine percentages of barley can be increased or decreased the intake changes
Andy mentioned the pigeons don’t know there going
My cocks when spot on know when it’s Friday by little things that change in the loft and we can all get pigeons to eat more when we want by using certain seeds

That's the thing, I wouldn't tell you that your ideas on feeding are wrong, but there are some who would say, quite strongly, that my opinion is wrong.
Why is that?

No Neil, I never weighed

I trusted my instincts and I let the pigeons tell me what they wanted

Always stood me in good stead anyway

I haven’t said your wrong Murray
I said I bet you don’t race on that much protein the other day and you said no you wouldn’t be

No, You wouldn't aim to, but that mix I am feeding at present is about 13.6% protein. It's a bit grain heavy and light on maize if you were flying very far, but going 50 or 60 miles, well they'll do that at home on a day when they are feeling well.
Going more than, say, 90 or100 miles, I think they start to need the extra carbs. especially if it's cold or a head wind. But we do tend to worry too much.
Good pigeons are tough, they only have one job. Bad pigeons aren't going to get better because we lie awake.
