Oh yes, he is a good trainer alright, very good.
But when you have hundreds of young birds to start with, when you have plenty of ammunition, something will hit the target.

Congratulations to those fanciers (especially those up North flying over 800miles) who clocked in on days 5 and 6.
Now this thread and our race from Perth last weekend has had me thinking

I can't take anything away from these birds or the fanciers who timed them in but it does beg the question that is it the fast or clever birds that get home/win these races !! As you'd have read in Les's post about John Bonwicks bird from Perth, now this bird flew for 9hrs then stopped for a rest/drink enabling it to get up and go again subsequently finishing 2nd club 8th fed. As we know Mark's gallant winner flew just under 16hrs non stop, now if this bird hadn't managed to reach home in that time would it have had the courage/strength to get up and go again the following morning !!
So with that in mind how many good birds fly themselves out in their determination to get home on day one, while the clever bird stops and takes a break enabling it to get up nice and fresh on day two to complete its journey !! Now some will argue that by the time you get to days 4,5&6 that it's no longer racing (although we'd all like to have one in our loft

) but to me these birds show real guts and courage to keep on getting up and going again in their desire to get home. Thankfully we will never know the answer but on the day the winner is the best bird in the race
