I started useing Milton in my water, especially during the racing season when birds from other lofts start turning up. It was something I was told of and used to do back in the 80s/90s, having had a few issues over the past couple of seasons I decided to try it again.Murray wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2024 10:01 pm it was a hot night, we had widows open and fans going.....
I got up at 6 because the boys wanted feeding and it was too warm to stay in bed.
Went out and checked the babies. All doing well, and there's nothing out there that's likely to scalp a youngster, but you still worry.
Came in and had a cuppa then scraped out and watered the veggies. The tomatoes have grown nearly a foot in the last 24 hours with the heat !
There's another thing I think is useful. In the afternoon I took all the drinkers out, rinsed them and filled them with cold water. I did it again this morning and I'll do it again later. I think that in this hot weather when they drink they can put canker and cocci organisms in the drinkers which love the warm water and it becomes a bug soup. Spreads it to the next one that has a drink. I reckon flushing out the drinkers and putting cold fresh water in is a quick and easy way to reduce cross infection in the loft.
For a good few years I use to put a drop of bleach in the ybs drinker on a Saturday evening after a raceTrev wrote: ↑Sat Nov 23, 2024 8:59 amI started useing Milton in my water, especially during the racing season when birds from other lofts start turning up.
