It's possible I will join in with my old club this year with a small team. They are racing the west line this year. I'm 57 miles in a straight line from Bendigo, so I'd be very much the front marker
It would be mainly to test my birds and make sure I am not breeding a shed full of pets.

Good idea Murray
Would you be racing along the south coast ?

No, Bendigo is slap bang in the middle of Victoria, and the town of St Arnaud is 57 miles due west of there. All the racing is inland.

It's going to be hot later. The youngsters are starting to range and disappear and I wasn't keen on them being out in the heat. So I let them out at 7.30 and by the time I had closed the sputnik and turned around they were gone!
40 minutes later they arrived back, zoomed around for 5 minutes then came down. Some of them went straight in and the others were in within a minute or two.
They have only been flying for a couple of weeks at most, and are going terrific!
Now they have learned the ropes I'll fly them in the mornings. They have to fly and go in. Lots of hawks.

Thanks Buster.
After a nice 45 minute fly this morning and a snooze in the sun, the youngsters were like, 'its 3 o'clock, we want out!

'
Not on your life, I thought. It was 37c, but a cloud cover and a breeze made it tolerable. Well, as tolerable as 100F can be.

I'm learning some new things. You never stop learning new things.
In the past I've always sort of looked to breed three rounds in August, September and October. Finishing up in November.
( Remember I'm in the Great South Land).
This year it's all gone pear shaped, obviously, and I've got big babies, small babies, medium sized babies all baking in the mid summer heat. And doing fine!
Because I am retired and an early riser I can keep them clean and fed and fresh watered, all the time. I'm having a ball
I sent all of the youngsters off the first couple of rounds to other lofts. That was the plan. The first round I kept are 7 to 9 weeks old.
They are starting to really fly very hard. But it tells on them. They are in beautiful order, glowing pink in the flesh, vibrant eyes, perfect feathers, and very bright.
But.
When I picked them up this afternoon, I found that they weigh, nothing.

Flying in this heat, they haven't an ounce on them.
