They were split up Anthony. This was the first week with the new 3 counties so weren’t sure how the drag going down into Devon and Cornwall would compare with the WOESRC going up into Bristol. With the North in the wind it could have pushed them more down along the coast. I am still one of the shortest fliers. Maidstone to me was 128 miles. I see John Angwin down in Cornwall was flying 280 miles. We were hoping to have been picked up at around 9.30pm Saturday evening. But because of some jobs worth traffic police officer who pulled the transporter over on the M5 and insisted on seeing all the relevant paperwork for both the transporter and driver they didn’t get to us until 11.00pm. The stupid thing is that the lorry is only 4 years old and in good condition.

The birds were released at 6.44am in a light NW wind and clear skies. I thought around 3 hours would be a go one. Being a Sunday I was able to watch for them as we don’t open the shop on a Sunday. At 9.46 I had a pigeon coming straight towards the loft landed straight on the drop board and trapped. 5 minutes later I had a second who trapped just as well. He was thirsty though. Because of the hold up the evening before and going into the metal Geraldy crates instead of the old wooden ones from the combine I did wonder how well they drunk on the lorry. I then had to wait 20 minutes for the next one and then had 3 in a couple of minutes. I ended up last night with 10/13 including a late bred cock still carrying 5 nest flights having his 3rd race. In fact only having his 3rd time in a basket having never been trained before his first race.
My first bird was a 4 year old cock. Bred from a cock from Devo and a hen from Pete Davenport, both having flown Poitiers with the BICC. Up until this year he had done nothing. He probably would have been got rid off in many lofts. He had been raced both South over the channel and North but had never been on the day. He was also one that although not wild hated being caught. This year on widowhood he is a different pigeon. Looks different, handles different and is much calmer. He has been improving every week. Last week he was my 2nd bird. Second bird this week was the blue pied cock from Buster.

it just goes to show with that cock bird of yours that some birds just need different stimulation and incentives. Hopefully the rest of the season will go well for you too.Not sure it will help as I didn’t get any info at the time but the ring number was GB19B05855. I will do a topic on the birds I have now.
