As I said to Catherine, some of the younger ones have never felt rain in their lives, so it's no wonder they got a bit wild and excited.

I’m sitting out in the country about to toss the young birds.
The line in the distance is the horizon

Yep, 20 miles that way is home.
The youngstars did it in 19 minutes. Beat me home, the young buggers
I called Catherine to say I was 5 minutes out, we were talking and she said, "they're here".
They must have been going about 1850 yards.

A nice open spot Muzza, we haven't got too many of those over here any more
Good to see they made it back in good time, you must be getting quite excited about your first race now !!
All the best mate.

No I'm more nervous than a teenager on his first date.
The Youngstars have had lots and lots of tosses, and I've lost 2. That's Two.
I 'retired' one to be Big Ronnie's little mate because she just couldn't keep up

, one is going to stock, I've lost several off the loft, but these ones that have been educated just keep going.
This makes me a bit uneasy. I have been 'sitting' on them at bit. Their first race is still 3 weeks away so I have to try to get some longer tosses into them but try to have them ready when they need to be, not hanging them out for the falcons before they need to.
Wish me luck.

I asked David if the first Invitation club race was still from St Arnaud this weekend. They've pushed the program back a week. Apparently a lot of the blokes have had terrible tosses. Lots of hawks, he said.
I said there's one or two out here too, but...
I asked him if their pigeons were unfit or going too far too quickly.
"Not fit and not far enough" he said.
They've got to be super fit and well here. I've tried being soft on them. Ended badly.

Im sure you have everything under control and that the remaining birds will be ready and raring to go mate
Having gone through my own youngsters last weekend I've lost 3 off the loft, also had a few that have picked up an injury or two, mostly only superficial but one did need major surgery from our club chairman, he did a fantastic job on that one. I've not started training yet, I'm hoping to start them in a couple of weeks as we are now only 5 weeks away from our first youngbird race.

Only 5 weeks and it's gone a full circle, Trev.
A new team of babies, all full of youthful hope
I hope they do well for you mate.
Also, I've been meaning to ask, the new fibre glass roof, after a few seasons are you pleased with it?
