Races can be won by a split second in the racing pigeon world, many members race their birds at different distances. But i would say sprint and middle distance, is used more in the Uk, so you need the right family of birds to compete.

You can only go by what is what is winning, over the past number of years throughout Europe. These birds have been doing so well, and i must say for different lofts. i would say the Leidiman brothers are leading the way but not just with grizzles.

No, Devo, there was a short lived thing a few years ago where you could tell a top pigeon while it was in the nest.
You could, according to this "Champion of the sport" tell if a baby was a potential superstar.
The secret was, they were superior if they had..... .... white claws!

Murray i have always worked on the art of breeding, and the only way i could get any information on the generations on family lines. And i mean winning and breeding lines, was the birds pedigree. Now that has to be backed up with DNA of the birds. But again this would not work if the youngsters were underdeveloped. So this is where good loft management is a must

In my opinion, if you are not having fun, you are doing it wrong.
My pigeons are living in an old chook shed just now, and there's about an inch gap around the door. When I go out in the morning I start talking to them as I unlock the door, and I can see a couple of dozen pigeons all excited on the floor
I like a winner as much as the next bloke. Or, being an old jockey, possibly more . But I think happy pigeons are more likely to do well in the races than those that have been fed all the supplements under the sun.
Love of home. The bloke that can put that in a sachet, he will make a million.

Well Murray this is the part i do miss, i spent so much time with the birds. i would open my back garden door of a morning, and the loft would go into overdrive. All the birds showing they were happy, flying on my shoulder as i was observing the droppings around the loft. At all times looking for the signs of how my birds health was, Cleaning out was always a pleasure, this was a major factor of observation
