3cocks 7 hens in my old section after giving away / moving on etc my birds 2 fed winners went
It’s strange to see but selection is complete
Space for 12cocks and 13 hens now
Let’s hope I get the hang of flying hens

Hopefully I don’t do the ybs knowing my luck this year a bad toss is around the corner

There are plenty of very successful hen racers. Down here many or even most blokes prefer hens.

Yes loads seem to be racing hens only
It’s new to me really use to mess about with a few without needing them to perform like the Cocks

If i was racing birds today, i would race the hens. I feel far too many hens were wasted . Just sitting around in the lofts, i think this year alone hens could have made a good second team. Giving a far better selection for races. Those are my thoughts.

Quality over quantity every time Neil

I'm sure you'll carry a nice team of yearlings forward - and yearlings are the backbone of any good sprint / middle distance loft

I always worry about the cocks
I had a go before but my best cock was beating his partner then he blanked for 2-3 weeks not putting a shift in . I stopped her and he came good again
It’s always in my mind that racing hens suits hens not cocks no system other than pure widowhood favours cocks in my view

One thing that gets in the way is our club limit of 30 birds
I have 20 box’s so always think that will do and have 6/7 hens unpaired times about with

Unfortunately now the peregrines are killing over my area like they have I. Others 20 isn’t a lot to play with
I lost 8 this year still have my best cock without a tail fully grown and a fed winner I gave away with a puncher wound in him so 20 went to 9 by mid May .. I have always been lucky maybe the mild winters and the protection of them are both combined now as I can’t train now without thinking g about getting hit

I think that's a lesson that you have to consider moving forwards Neil

You know me, I'm all about "risk v reward"

I know there's occasions you "like" to train, but getting hit in training soon makes you think twice about it
