How much have members done
I had 4 at 4 miles
1 at 10 miles ( took a hour ) so moved them on as there is a quarry near by and I lost 3 so I was thinking about peregrines
3 at 16 miles
3 at 20 miles
1 at 25!miles that’s north west of the 20 mile spot
1 at 25 miles that’s North east of tne 20 miles spot
Plan to swop them to the NW spot tomorrow ( if not silly hot )
25 miles that’s NE of the 20 miles spot Saturday
So it’s like a funnel
Then sit every night at 20 miles
First race 27th

Where are members at and when do you start your races

Started training at 15 Mls, had ten out to 35 Mls, first race 20/7/24.

I was going to do a separate topic Neil following a training toss this morning but as you’ve started this I will post on here.
So this morning I gave my youngsters their second toss. The first one was with some old hens a week ago.
This time I took just the 14 youngsters. I only have 14. I took them to the same place, 9 miles, as last week. There was a bit of low lying mist but broken cloud and clear above the mist. I let them go at 6.50am. They came out well and soon cleared. I got home at 7.10 half expecting, hoping, that they were back. No sign of them. I let the old birds out for their exercise and cleaned the lofts out. Had a cup of tea and a bit of breakfast. Still no youngsters. I then got the old birds in. By this time it was about 8.30. I eventually had 8 return at 8.52, just over 2 hours. There was also a stray with them so I would imagine that they got in with other birds being trained. I had the youngest one at 9 weeks old among the first ones plus 2 from Trev. I then had to open up the shop. I checked again at 10.15 and had another 3, including the red youngster that was late from the first trainer. So 11/14. An hour or so later when checking there was 1 more back. I had another 1 this evening making 13/14. Just the one missing. Surprisingly enough it’s the eldest one.
Not sure whether you could say it was a good toss or not, but hopefully learnt something.
I was going to go again tomorrow but probably won’t now. Will try to give them another couple next week.

Hatched 24th January Neil. The youngest one hatched 11th May.
Born in May fly all day as the saying goes.

I've done more this year than usual but still probably not enough !!
Some of our federation members have been training every day this week, some even twice a day, in preparation for our first race at the weekend.
I have had two from 10 miles, I lost 1 youngster from the first one and had one back a couple of days late injured.
I have also had two from from 20 miles with no loses.
I am planning on sending about a dozen this weekend, those that don't go will get an extra trainer on Sunday, weather permitting. I will probably continue to give them 1 a week for the first two or three weeks but will then stop.
As with Andy I've kept pigeons most of my life and have tried most things with them, but I am definitely still learning, recently it has become more apparent to me that, rather than just using training for basket experience, fitness or to teach them to use their brains, it's much more about getting them "race fit" and to give them that desire to actually race home and not just get home.

Birds bred April/May go all the way, I like this one better
