Anyone remember the Cattrysse pigeons ?

When I was a kid I use to visit the great Les Varney who purchased all Les Davenports pigeons
From memory he won a car in 1984 with blue metro
I then met Alan Rowley from the same town who took me to heart and gave me a job on the pebble dash/ floor laying him in 1986 straight from school
I loved them 2 years proper hard work to 2pm pigeons to 5pm He purchased the best from Les and won back to back cars in 86 and 87 with fighting mick and master Les against 14,000 birds
First time I understood a widowhood cock
Lovely pigeons blues / pencils odd pied

What great days

The strain went back as far as 1921, but it was not until 1926 that great success came their way ,with a pigeon called Grote Blauwen, meaning the big blue , a Wegge- Vandevelde and a hen from Piero De Knops Dax winners and the big blue were the foundation of the entire loft.

You wonder where all these great strains go they don’t disappear
Yet few are referenced in modern pedigrees

I had a few Cattrysse back in the 80s early 90s. Good alround pigeons.

These old great strains in my opinion die with the founder. Future generations can be said to be bred down from these old strains but direct can only come from the masters themselves. All of these “strains” nowadays are all breed down from the old strains but given the names of the fanciers whose lofts they come out of, and so they should.

Have to agree with you Andy, once the birds leave the founders loft they just become descendants. I remember years ago I was in the loft of a guy call Jan Pol raced as IJJ Robool he'd recently won an international. I asked him if they were Jan Aardens, he replied maybe 50 years ago
