Still nothing confirmed yet.

So the first of our races is next weekend. This is from Guernsey with the BICC. It was due to have been Falaise in France but the DEFRA registrations still haven’t been done. Ian Evans has been chasing DEFRA and still hopes to have it sorted soon. Until then we can’t race from France. So along with the BICC next weekend the CSCFC are also going to Guernsey the following weekend. The week after that, 14th May, the BICC are due to go to Falaise and the BBC are going to either Guernsey or Coutances. I can see us starting with at least 3 Guernseys. I don’t actually mind that to much myself. Guernsey is 109 miles to me so good first races and they do still need to fly over a fair bit of the channel, about 80 miles.
I must admit that I just haven’t had any time to do any training. But hearing about some of the bad trainers that some have been having and after last years disaster I’m not to worried. They are on open loft and flying well around home, up and down all day long. There is food in front of them all the time but still trap when called. On handling them they handle well. Any excess weight they carried after being shut in all winter has gone. When handling them, with food in front of them all the time, they never have more than a few grains in their crops.
As you know by now I’m not a great one for training and don’t see the point in spending half an hour or so basketing them to then drive for another 30 minutes to get about 20 miles. Then 30 minutes to get back home. For them to fly for 30 minutes or so. I can’t see what is gained from this. I have trained a fair bit some years and not at all others and the results in racing have been same.
It might take them a couple of races to sharpen up but as I’m not interested in any of the short races these are good races for them. I don’t mind how long they take.
I might be regretting it come next weekend, only around half the team will go anyway, 10/15 the first week. Some pairs have just left eggs so won’t be able to go next weekend anyway but should be good for the following one.

Hopeless, utterly hopeless.
Supposed to be racing next week and the clearances have not been finalised.
You have a bigger heart than me, Andy. I would have given up and gone north with them.

We are ok to go to Guernsey Murray as that is part of the UK and not the EU but can’t get into France as yet. Only due to paperwork I think. The trouble is unless the national clubs go north I have nobody I can fly north with. The Dorset fed have gone north but because I am just over the border in Somerset I can’t join. The WOESRC are only really interested in sprint racing along the coast East to West. 35 miles to 100 mile races for me. So have to just hope things work out.

It is getting a bit ridiculous now but unfortunately I think the EU were always going to make things difficult and there are also too many big wigs in defra that don't support pigeon racing. All we can hope is that if it continues for too long the big organisations will just turn North so we can get our distance racing that way.

This time it’s not the EU that is holding things up. As far as their concerned we are ready to go. The hold up is the registration process required with DEFRA.
