Anyone prefer a certain pea or maize
I know some don’t like blue or green peas but prefer maples other don’t seem to like maples
Same as maize i remember Anthony Webster telling me to avoid popcorn maize as it takes coming to get into the pigeons as it takes ages to break down

NZ Maples were very popular in the 70s & 80s and were of very good quality. Todays Maples are nothing like them. I know many fanciers who say with some mixtures the Maples are often left or eaten last. If I were buying in peas I'd go for white, blue or green peas. I'd not buy Maples straight again, I'd rather feed beans.

It’s getting hard here to get straight beans King my local farm where I used to get them at £8-10 25kg have stopped growing them so I will have to buy Bamfords that don’t look half as good

Yeah the York/Leeds lads used to buy from a bloke at Harewood for years. When the old bloke died, his daughter had the entire farm up for auction the following week!. Many use a farm near Doncaster now.

It’s a pain King the guy said to me there more money growing barley here
I like to leave the breeders on beans 24/7
Then each morning give them breed and wean a fat mix and few chicken pellets
It was ideal then off to work never hear a yb in the nest on that

When we were in new Zealand the maples were usually very good, unless there had been widespread heavy rain around harvest time. I remember one farmer who would grow tons of maples for the pigeon racers, and we'd get them in sacks that were so heavy it took two blokes to lift them!
They were only farm dressed, so there'd be a bit of dirt and sticks in them, but the birds did great on them. Big fat peas

Here in Australia the peas vary a lot, if it's a very dry year you can get peas that are small and hard, but they are the best peas you can get, if you cant get any other peas

I bought a 20 kilo bag in Bendigo yesterday to keep a pot of peas in each nest box. Au$31.50! Ouch.
