This is what i found, when i had to get rid of my birds. The daily routine all went, and I was wondering what I was going do without them. Well I soon found time, to do things I would not be able to do if I still had them. You have to remember it is a 365 day sport, and I have to say I enjoyed every minute of my time with the birds.

My message to all members, enjoy the sport while you can. Gather information to help you in the sport, and don't be afraid to ask questions, Otherwise you wont find the answer to your question. I have met some really nice people in this sport, and I hope to meet some more in my life. Just enjoy what you can, but just remember we learn something new every day..

Thats a shame when you have so much experience -can I ask why you gave up Dev, dont worry if you would rather keep it private.

I am suffering from interstitial lung disease Dave, so my consultant told me the birds had to go. Not what I wanted to hear, so now on medication to slow scarring on my lungs.
So if it means OLR to stay in the sport, its better than nothing mate.

Yep, that's what I have too. It is not ideal.
The best treatment for it is a positive attitude. It'll kill us, but not for a long time yet

Yes I agree Murray, a good mindset helps a long way.

Good advice from you both, we all have a choice and must do what is best for us as individuals and for our families. I have to say I wouldn't be without my birds again, something has to kill me one day so it may as well be something I enjoy, I've given up smoking and drinking, I'm too old and worn out to play sport so the pigeons it is.
Don't get me wrong, I do consider my family so take whatever precautions I can, the main thing for me is to reduce the number I have.
But thankfully we are all very different so make our own choices, as long as we are happy, that's what counts.

Adding a quote to Devo's comments about asking questions, I always remember being told this by my first wife's Dad " A man who thinks he knows everything, learns nothing" wise words that I've always tried to remember.

Aaah, so sorry for you guys. Yes, the title of the thread is very apt.
I think its great that you guys stay on here and contribute to this site by helping novices and ppl like me.
If it were me, I think I might be quite bitter about it all but yous are all upbeat to your credit!
All power to you both and to anyone else that suffers in any shape or form and thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge - it is really appreciated.

No need to feel sorry for us, Dave. There are plenty of people far worse off.
