Why Do It ?

When you think about it, the YB that you are racing in September are the same birds you’re racing as yearlings in April the year after. Therefore, to me, the difference between a YB and a yearling is just 7 months

Now, talking as a sprinter why would you feed the YB racers a YB mixture?

I raced my YB the exact same way as I did my OB sprinters

Food for thought ?

Never used a YB mixture either to be honest.
Mine are fed with Paloma d100 Olympic diamond and d12 super diet
People seem to only use this mixture for their yearlings and old birds but i dont seem to have any problem using it for the young birds either given the results so yeah im not exactly sure why you would use a YB mixture but maybe some people have a proper reason for it

Think there are lots of brands doing corn for different things when really you can combine any 4 mixtures to make the mix you want to fit in with the period or race ahead
I do use a breed and wean for 2/3 weeks then it’s just a light mix to get them up and the body light which I put together

Grit and minerals is another

I’d say my cocks got fresh grit / minerals about 330 days a year. Certainly never 365

I put a 60 ml measure down of different grits and mineral from beyers and pick block with pink mineral all mixed in after there evening feed to 20 cocks no grit / mineral Thursday Friday they get seeds 3-5g of instead to keep to routine as they expect a treat after dinner
No grit or mineral is ever left in pots

Wise words mate

I never wanted them to carry the unnecessary weight.

You never see a F1 car end the race with 1/2 tank of fuel

By using the same analogy, Do you expect a bird to finish the race flat empty?

Me too. I put fresh grit in front of them every day, except the day before hampering for a race.
