These little late breds hatched out early October. I thought I had thrown the eggs away lol. They are out of a yearling cock from Trev who was first bird from both of the North road races and a hen that flew Elgin 457 miles last year as a yearling. I haven’t let the birds out since the clocks changed. Yesterday I let them out for a while in the morning. These late breds have never been out of the loft before. When I went to get the birds in I noticed that one of them was out, the one in the top photo. Most of the birds came in when called but a few didn’t, including the late bred. We had to go out during the day and when we got home I went to check on the birds. All but this little late bred were in with no sign of it. I checked the loft when it was dark but still missing. We had a lot of heavy rain overnight and it’s been wet and very windy all day. Not good for this little bird being out for the first time. Roxanna came down into the shop around midday and said that it was on the loft. I had left all the traps shut because of the weather. When I went up the garden it flew off. I opened the trap on one section and left it to it. When I checked mid afternoon it was in the loft, soaking wet but fine. I think this could be one for the future.

Nice one! Always pleasing when a tiny one has an adventure and comes home unscathed. He will be fine now :)

😂 shouldn’t do. Their unlikely to be raced next year as they are so late bred. I will see how well they mature.

Nice looking babies Andy, glad they are both home safely. Should be the right breeding to go the distance. I think you are right not to race them too soon, let them develop and maybe give them a couple of trainers with your 2023 youngsters and hopefully they will be good to go as 2 year olds.
