Life in Bendigo.
Gordon told me he wanted a nest bowl this morning.I was picking up the droppings in his box when he took hold of the dust pan in his beak and pulled on it. I went and got a bowl and a handful of straw and he’s a happy old pigeon

No!

Falcon would have no chance of getting these little blokes. They are much too quick.
As Catherine said, life is just an all day party for the little buggers.

Yes, Gordon is an old unrung stray, but he is half human and is the best pigeon I have ever had.
He is one of the best pigeons anyone ever had.

Yes Trev, we are very lucky to have a family of them moved in to our back garden. They are Rainbow Lorikeets. Absolutely beautiful.
People pay $1200 each for a tame young one!

It's funny, isn't it. When you see something so beautiful human nature makes you want to catch it. It's much better putting food out for them and seeing them free and happy.

Couldn't agree more Muzza, its much nicer to see these beautiful creatures in their natural environment. I don't envy you some of the temperatures you endure but some of your nature is quite magical.Murray wrote: ↑Sat Jul 15, 2023 9:00 amYes Trev, we are very lucky to have a family of them moved in to our back garden. Yes, the wildlife, especially the birds, is marvelous here. It was frosty here this morning, and when i opened the curtains at 7 am there were little parrots hanging on the bird feeder looking for some sunflower seed. I grabbed the ladder and a tin of seed and refilled the hanging feeder. No sooner had I taken the ladder away and there were squealing little parrots all over the tree! They are getting very bold.
And yes, Trev, it can get hot here alright, but for a lot of the year the weather is great. And due to 'climate change' or whatever, our weather is very much milder than it was 10 or 20 years ago. The overnight lows are usually a fraction of a degree higher than usual, month after month, and the daytime highs are lower than the long term average, sometimes quite a bit. We have not had rows of temperatures in the 40's for several years, and have hardly been in the high 30's for the last couple of years. When you only get a handful of very hot days over a summer, you can cope with it.
