This afternoon I let the birds out for their usual afternoon fly. There were some very dark clouds around but going North of us. To the South it was much clearer with well broken cloud. The birds were going about their usual business of taking off having a fly for a few minutes then landing before going off again. We were sat in the summerhouse having a cup of tea. They all shot off at one point and at the same time there were a lot of seagulls flying around making a lot of noise. Not that unusual especially if a hawk is about. The birds disappeared. After around 20 minutes the odd ones started coming back flying really high in little groups of 2/4. These were probably some of the old birds. I was standing in the garden watching them when a big batch of pigeons started circling very high. There were far more pigeons in the batch than I have. Probably around 60. They kept disappearing then breaking into different batches before regrouping. There were odd ones flying on their own or in twos or threes. I imagine they either got in with someone else’s either exercising or training. After about another twenty minutes the numbers had dropped and mine started dropping down. When getting them in all mine were there with no extras so they had obviously sorted themselves out eventually. It was great to watch and wouldn’t have done them any harm. They certainly flew well. If the others were someone training they would think that their birds were slow lol
It reminded me of the days back in the Seventies when I was still living at home in Lancing. I don’t know if you remember Trev? There were, if memory serves me right, 17 lofts in Lancing alone that I can recall. All within around a half miles radius. Members didn’t keep as many birds back then but some evenings if several members happened to have their youngsters out at the same time there could be a batch of 200+ flying around. They would circle one members loft before moving on to the next and the next and so on. They could keep this up for an hour or so before eventually they would start splitting and dropping down onto their own lofts. It was surprising how rarely one would go into the wrong loft.
More than just mine
Same round here there is a load of lofts and sometimes they get together and just keep zipping around, even worse when all the young out as well, 1 bloke only lets his out on an afternoon now so they fly more or less alone
Sadies Lofts home of decent birds just a useless loft manager, and now a confirmed loser but proud

I would try to get mine out with others if possible. Makes them fly better and have to learn to break from batches.
Back just enjoying club racing for the time being.
He's a funny bugger mate thinks he's better than anyone else, remember when one of my youngsters went in his loft I went and fetched it and all he was going on about was how he had probably got rid of better ones than I had in my loft amongst other trash

Doesn’t sound a particularly nice bloke.
I know the hawks/falcons do cause a lot of trouble for our birds but I think they do get blamed for everything. I wouldn’t mind betting that if the pigeons that got in with mine were trainers and arrived home split up the owner would be saying they had been struck by a BOP.

Thats good Andy, glad they sorted themselves out, as you say it won't have done them any harm.
I don't remember exactly how many lofts there were Andy but I know there were a fair few, I certainly remember watching from our bedroom windows on race days and seeing them all peeling out of the massive batches that flew over when Dad raced South road along the coast !!!
It's getting mine away from the feral pigeons around here that's my problem lol
