We have 10 members sending 196 birds to Upper Heyford this weekend, I've sent 31.
When basketing the birds this evening I found another bird home from last weeks race and one from our first youngbird race. Looking at the conditions tomorrow I reckon it will be a two hour race !!
Upper Heyford 2 Sussex North Road Fed
The birds were up at 8.45 in a light Westerly wind, to be honest looking at video of the liberation the birds appeared to clear fairly well considering how cloudy it was up there. Taking all into account I thought the winners could be home between 10.30 and 10.45am. There were showers on and off while I was waiting for the birds, the first few arrived in the dry but quite a few of the later ones turned up in the rain. My first bird arrived just before 10.50 and was quickly joined by 2 others, the first on the clock at 10.50 the next 2 at 10.51. On the whole the birds came pretty well as you can see from my clock sheet, I had 28/31 when I took the clock out but had all 31 when I went to the club so a good day in all. Our club winner was young Danny Porter, who if races were won purely on his effort and enthusiasm alone would win every week, his first bird was timed at 10.37 doing 1333ypm. Well done Danny

I ended up 14th the 6th member of the 9 who sent, on the whole returns were pretty good all round.
Ignore the birds sent by individuals at the moment as its something new they are trying to add but it only gave the option to add the numbers clocked by each member not how many sent, it does give an idea though.

Nice one Trev. Good returns for Brighton. Wetherby, in two weeks time, will be a Saturday basket, doe Sunday race. Basket time to be a hour earlier than normal, to allow birds to get as much rest as possible. Verdon Newbold next week.
Living in Brighton & Sunny Sussex.
Considering this is only Danny's second full year racing he took with his old birds :-
13 races total.
1 x 1st Federation
3 x 1st Club
3 x 2nd
1 x 3rd
2 x 4th
3 x 5th
2 x 6th
Young birds so far he missed the first week but in the last 4 he has taken :-
1 x 1st
3 x 2nd
1 x 3rd
2 x 4th
3 x 5th
3 x 6th
He certainly puts in a shift during racing he started training his old birds back in March taking them every day to work with him to start with as well as taking them again some evenings, once racing started he would still be up the road before work 2 or 3 times a week and has carried that on right through to young birds. He missed the first week with youngsters as he felt he hadn't trained them enough, he is still training them twice a week as well as sending with the federation trainers on a Wednesday with the guys from Eastbourne and Brighton. He is young and very enthusiastic and has a bright future ahead of him in the sport, as long as his marriage can stand it
Thanks LesDarkPiedCock wrote: βSun Aug 27, 2023 1:26 pm Nice one Trev. Good returns for Brighton. Wetherby, in two weeks time, will be a Saturday basket, doe Sunday race. Basket time to be a hour earlier than normal, to allow birds to get as much rest as possible. Verdon Newbold next week.
I didn't realise Wetherby was a Saturday basketing !! That obviously hasn't filtered through to us yet lol, thanks for mentioning it
Yes we had been told that next weeks Rugby had been changed to Verdon Newbold.
All the best.
I knew he had got a few in but that is brilliant, hope he continues the trend as you say to many cooks spoil the broth, he needs to find one or two and take heed from themTrev wrote: βSun Aug 27, 2023 1:58 pmConsidering this is only Danny's second full year racing he took with his old birds :-
