Talking to my mate David yesterday, he told me the youngsters have had 18 tosses, he started with 117 and he's down to 99.
All 12 of mine are still there, and he mentioned a little blue chequer hen that is going well. Just a little thing he said, but does everything right. He told me the number and I looked it up. It's off one of the red Thone' cocks.

The hen is a daughter of The Diver, and the youngster is a sister of the little mealy that won a race for me last year.
It might be alright, I said. :D

And I look forward to you coming and seeing them Devo. :D :D

Don't expect a big palatial set up. I have a small loft and a smaller stock shed. But the sheds are arranged to make the birds comfortable and happy, and I do have some terrific pigeons. Top bloodlines.
They are pretty quiet and sometimes I will have one sat on my shoulder and think, "There's worse pigeons than you on auction sites going for thousands all over the world!, And yet, here you are" :D

I spent some time out there today putting the fly screen and steel mesh on the back vent at the bottom. That will keep the vermin and snakes and spiders and other nasty things out.

I am not a fan of aviaries. I have seen blokes with a loft of say, 12' x 6', which is badly overcrowded, so they put an aviary on it. Now they think they have a 12'x12' loft and it's not overcrowded at all. :D :D
:x
What they still have is a 12' x 6' loft.
So I was hesitant to put an aviary on my loft at St Arnaud. I intend to get them out flying as soon as possible, but they will have to be kept in while they settle back into their home and raise a round of babies. I am putting lots of nest boxes in so all of them can pair up and lay, I can see me being busy switching eggs around. :D
But just for a while they must stay in, so I have drawn up a small 6' long x 6' high x 4' deep aviary to go on the front of the loft.
The most valuable (in my mind ;) ) six pairs will be in the small stock shed. They will have to wait until all the others are out and homed in before I take the very deep breath.....
