Races can be won by a split second in the racing pigeon world, many members race their birds at different distances. But i would say sprint and middle distance, is used more in the Uk, so you need the right family of birds to compete.
Here is a small video of top class racing pigeons.

New Leideman magic at Sangers Pigeons
After the purchase of 3 direct children of ‘Goed Grijs’, Sangers pigeons reinforced the colony with 2 very exclusive Leideman pigeons! A direct son of ‘Arturo’ x ‘Tila’ and a daughter of ‘Crack 19’ x ‘Jet’ – the very best of Leideman.
The super pair ‘Arturo’ x ‘Tila’ is the new nr. 1 breeding pair at Leideman … their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren won at least 11x 1. NPO / provincial. For instance:
Parents of 1.-2.-3.-4.-8.-13.-14. Nat. S4 winners & 1. I.prov. 13,141 b.
Grandparents of 11x 1. Nat./NPO/prov. winners
Great grandparent of 1. Olympiad bird NL, 1. Nat. acebird & 1. NPO winner
Sangers Pigeons bought the NL22-8076566 ‘Azzuro’ on PIPA, as star of the auction, direct from ‘Arturo’ x ‘Tila’.
Also very exclusive is the new acquisition NL22-8694978 ‘Jet Lag’, from the old toppers ‘Crack 19’ x ‘Jet’. ‘Crack 19’ is also father of ‘Arturo’ and himself crowned as 1. acebird region. He bred generations of massive winner, also in pairing with the mother of ‘Jet Lag’, who is ‘Jet’. She won 3x massive 1. prize and superbreeder. ‘Crack 19’ was born in 2014 and ‘Jet’ in 2015 – therefore ‘Jet Lag’ could be one of the best children of her.
The need for speed
Sorry, I had to stop laughing and catch my breath.
Can anyone tell me why, according to some "experts" the light coloured yonge duif will be a good one?

You can only go by what is what is winning, over the past number of years throughout Europe. These birds have been doing so well, and i must say for different lofts. i would say the Leidiman brothers are leading the way but not just with grizzles.

No, Devo, there was a short lived thing a few years ago where you could tell a top pigeon while it was in the nest.
You could, according to this "Champion of the sport" tell if a baby was a potential superstar.
The secret was, they were superior if they had.....
.... white claws!

Murray i have always worked on the art of breeding, and the only way i could get any information on the generations on family lines. And i mean winning and breeding lines, was the birds pedigree. Now that has to be backed up with DNA of the birds. But again this would not work if the youngsters were underdeveloped. So this is where good loft management is a must
Yea, well, that is probably the difference in our outlook on the sport.
In my opinion, if you are not having fun, you are doing it wrong.
My pigeons are living in an old chook shed just now, and there's about an inch gap around the door. When I go out in the morning I start talking to them as I unlock the door, and I can see a couple of dozen pigeons all excited on the floor
I like a winner as much as the next bloke. Or, being an old jockey, possibly more
. But I think happy pigeons are more likely to do well in the races than those that have been fed all the supplements under the sun.
Love of home. The bloke that can put that in a sachet, he will make a million.

Well Murray this is the part i do miss, i spent so much time with the birds. i would open my back garden door of a morning, and the loft would go into overdrive. All the birds showing they were happy, flying on my shoulder as i was observing the droppings around the loft. At all times looking for the signs of how my birds health was, Cleaning out was always a pleasure, this was a major factor of observationMurray wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2024 11:05 am Yea, well, that is probably the difference in our outlook on the sport.
