It’s not been much use yet mate
Feeding race hens
As I don’t even have my widowhood hens out of the loft whilst being used for widowhood they are fed depurative at the beginning of the week but will be given a couple of days, Wednesday and Thursday, of diet supreme. This is a facing mix for sprint racing. It just makes them a little keener for the cocks at the end of the week.
Back just enjoying club racing for the time being.
Now they have been repaired and on open loft they are getting a bit more of the supreme mix plus a widowhood mix Wednesday, Thursday. They are flying well. I may have to stop with the open loft though as I have lost 2 cocks to the peregrine this week.
Back just enjoying club racing for the time being.
Are you racing the hens now Andy
As they haven’t been out since early April up until last week and they are just going down on eggs I’m not yet but will look to give them a Stoney Cross 34 miles in a couple of weeks time. I could then give them the odd race as trainers with the young birds but will wait and see.

I'm afraid I don't fly widowhood so can't help much Niel, all I know is that the two top widowhood men in our club don't race their hens. There are some in the fed that do, these seem to race them several different ways, Chaos, Roundabout or even just normal widowhood sending both each week !! The early/shorter races do seem to be dominated by the cocks, although the odd hen will get in there, but as the season draws on and the distance gets a bit further the hens seem to come to the fore, but I think a lot of these hens are probably flying to eggs !!
I couldn't tell you what their preparation is though, sorry.

I'm afraid me and reading don't mix very well so I've not read this properly but thought it might be of some interest.
