Yes
Lee gave me "Tarzan" and he said to me "Just let me have him back if you ever leave the sport"
Needless to say "Tarzan" never featured in Dad's Bereavement Sale - he went back as promised
Different ways of breeding
Hi Neil
It's ok, not a problem
I'd always favoured V-Laga as a feed, so this was what I used
I favoured V-Laga because at that time every bag was the same - absolutely consustent
In the late 90's up to 2005 I fed the cocks V-Laga "Prestige". It was a strong widowhood mix. The most expensive on the market
My regime was dead simple
They were fed in pots and got as much as they could eat in 10 mins AM and PM (I'd visit each cock numerous times with a certain amount in my hand that felt right)
The only time this differed was Thurs night when they got as much as they could eat for an hour
We flew great on that winning numerous Federations up to 9,592 birds and numerous RPRA Awards from 0-250 through to the 0-800 category
I'm always prepared to look at change - change for the better, not change for change sake
In 2005 I changed to Gerry Plus and Superstar Plus
That was the year Houdini was Worcester Fed Chsmpion, West Midlands Region Sprint Champion, 2nd National Ace RPRA Sprint Champion
The basics were the same (fed in pots - 10 mins and 60 on a Thurs night) - only the feed changed
They got Gerry Sun-Tuesday. 50/50 on Weds and Superstar on Thursday and Friday
If I felt the race was going to be fast on Saturday I'd keep them on Gerry until the Thurs Am
If I flt it was gonna be harder I'd add stuff onto the feed to help deal with that

I’m on a run so I will chance a few more questions that would help all of us
Was Thursday the same the 10 mins on the Thursday morning or was that longer ?
So you would say ( to make it easier for the likes of myself )put a couple of teaspoons at a time in for the cocks
Both night and morning and once say a certain grain was left you stopped feeding or would you use the full 10 mins to get them to eat a little more of what they like even if not eating the full mix
Saturday Sunday no added protein ?
One question that I have never got the understanding of and it relates to the corns you mention but also most widowhood feeding methods why any mix that contains peas is fed past Tuesday
The Gerry to superstar in my head wants feeding the other way around I know I’m wrong as all the feed companies do similar but I can’t get why peas are included late in the week when it should be cards or fats time
Thursday morning was 10 min fed in the pots. I'd visit each cocks numerous times
Thursday night was "carb load" time.
I'd go back to each cock time and time again for an hour even if there was corn left in the pot
I'd empty and replenish and observe which cocks were interested in which grains
For me, they could never eat enough on a Thursday - because on a Friday I wanted them to "graze" as opposed to eat
On a Saturday and Sunday I used to give Immunol and Probac.
I know what you mean about the peas, and it is a curious one
The one you research it, the more it'll confuse
Here's the "sprint mixtures" of Vanrobaeys
https://www.vanrobaeysbelgium.com/en-GB ... ons#sprint
If you look at the "Racing Exclusive Nr 39" its quite high in carbs (not bad anyway) at 55% yet contains 3 different types of pea

I know you like to weigh your food, and I appreciate that, but I can't tell you how much ours ate
It was something I did by "feel"
Besides which, like humans, some pigeons have bigger appetities than others - so by feeding in the box you'd cater for each pigeons individual needs

Youngsters obviously not fed in pots but was it the same kind of system and times or tight early all they want Pm in the week
Looks pretty heavy but it would to meMIL wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 4:55 pm Thursday morning was 10 min fed in the pots. I'd visit each cocks numerous times

No, I mean sheer volume.
Thursday night I would be prepared to give them as much as they wanted
If they kept eating I kept feeding
YB - yes fundamentally the same process
