The second time I had it in the Old birds, but only a few contracted it. At the time I never considered it a big problem, although it is horrible to look at in your loft.
It’s the same with paramyxovirus Albert. I only vaccinate for this because we have too otherwise I wouldn’t bother. I have had it a couple of times. Yes the lofts a mess while it goes through the birds, some get the screwy necks, but I only lost the odd ones on each occasion and never any of the better birds. I even had one with the screwy neck that flew Poitiers 343 miles with the BICC a couple of months after recovering.

Have you proof of this Mike? Pox has never really been a problem for fanciers, the last outbreak in my area was in 1980. Outbreaks are mostly now caused by fanciers vaccinating with the live vaccine and NOT confining their birds in the loft until they stop shredding the virus.

She flew Poitiers as a yearling. I think she would have been vaccinated as a youngster so wouldn’t have been vaccinated again until after the old bird season as I used to vaccinate the old and young birds together just prior to the young bird season.

Yes I think so. I had a bird return during the winter that had been missing and brought it into the loft.

This year as I bred early due to racing widowhood they were all vaccinated, old and young, just after weaning the youngsters.
